I was born in a poor family living in a village, in 1990. During my childhood, I used to get sick frequently with fever and joint pains but we had no information about this disease. When we went to Dharampur Sainath Hospital to do a check up, we found out that I had less blood in my body (anemia) and was asked by the doctor to get blood transfusion from the Valsad Blood Bank. On further testing we found out that I suffered from disease called Sickle Cell. After this I started taking medicines and blood transfusions according to the advise by the doctor. This sickness just caught hold of me. My hands and feet would hurt a lot due to the cold in winter and my body felt very weak.
There were not many vehicles available for transportation and the roads were not paved in the village. My father used to carry me for 2 km on the dirt road because due to Sickle Cell disease, I would suddenly become ill; pain and weakness making it impossible for me to walk. At that time my father worked as helper at Dharampur Water department. His salary was small and our family was big and on top of that there was the burden of my illness. We passed our days in difficulty, but then my father passed away accidentally too. So then all the responsibilities of me and my family fell on to my uncle, Maheshbhai. But my uncle kept his courage and in time, he finally got my operation done. This got me out of pain and made my life better.

My names is Divyeshbhai Mohanbhai Patel and I was born in a small village. My father died when I was 3 years old and after that my uncle, Maheshbhai took care of me and raised me. I used to get sick often when I was very young. I was not able to go to school regularly because of frequent joint pains and fever. I have not seen any happiness since the day I was born. There were no paved roads in the village and my uncle had to carry me for 2 km on dirt road to reach the hospital. My uncle took me to hospital in Dharampur for check up and treatment. During the treatment as there was less blood in my body ( anemia), doctor told us to contact blood bank. When we went to the blood bank, they did more test and found out that I had Sickle Cell disease. I had very less blood in my body and I was feeling weak.
They started giving me blood as per the doctor’s advice, but my illness was such that my body was destroying all the blood that was being given. I used to have frequent joint pains and fatigue because of the sickness. I could not go outside. As the time passed by, the illness had got hold of my body. We had to go to hospital many times and then finally my uncle decided to get operation done. My operation was successfully done at Medicare Hospital in Valsad and now I am living a better life.
